Questions about therapy
Here you'll find answers to common questions. If you have other questions, feel free to write.
How long does therapy last?
This is very individual. Some people come for a few months, others for years. Together, we regularly evaluate whether therapy still serves your goals. There is no "correct" length – what matters is what works for you.
How often do we meet?
Usually we meet once a week. This regularity helps maintain continuity and depth. Sometimes, depending on the situation, less frequent meetings are also possible.
Can I stop therapy at any time?
Yes, absolutely. Therapy is voluntary. If you decide to end, I'll only ask that we talk about it – this is important for both you and me, so the ending is clear.
What if I don't know what to talk about?
This is normal and happens often. In a session, we start from what's here now – even if that is "I don't know what to talk about." Often, something important is hidden right there.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I'm not a medical doctor and don't prescribe medication. If needed, I can recommend a psychiatrist for consultation. Psychotherapy and medication can work in parallel.
Is everything confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is the foundation of therapy. Everything you share stays between us. Exceptions are only emergency situations – if there's a threat to your or someone else's safety.
Do you work online?
Yes, I offer both in-person sessions in Riga and online sessions via video. Online therapy is just as effective, and it's convenient if you don't live in Riga or prefer to work from home.
In which languages can sessions happen?
I work in Latvian, Russian and English. Choose the language you feel most comfortable in – in therapy, it's important to find your own words.
How should I prepare for the first session?
No special preparation is needed. Come as you are. If you want, you can think beforehand about what's currently bothering you or what you want from therapy. But this is not required.
What is Gestalt therapy?
Gestalt therapy is an approach that focuses on the present – on what you feel and how you react here and now. We work with the whole person – thoughts, emotions, body, relationships. The goal is to increase awareness and find new ways of being.
